When the U.S. Army joined the Leadfoot Motorsports race team as a new major associate sponsor of the Leadfoot Motorsports team, I knew we were going to be changing the paint scheme on the race car. At the same time a new hero card was needed. Also known as an autograph cards, these are free mini posters given out to fans at races. Normally you use a picture of the race as the main hero card image, but because we didn’t have photos of the car in its new livery I had to come up with a solution.
I combined several images together to achieve the look and feel of a painting. First, I edited an image of the race car substituting the old paint job for the new paint scheme. Then I combined that with scenery and a picture of the car’s pilot Brian Olatunji. Mixing in my own brush strokes, I applied a series of filters to achieve look of a painting.
Another unique challenge with this poster was finding the right balance between the realistic look of a painting with the ability to easily read all of the sponsor logos.
